That was quite execellent, Balistik!
You managed to give a song that's probably been done to death by just about everyone & given it a new identity and made it kick serious ass in the process.
Fantastic flow & storytelling on show here, not to mention great action & beat sync. The way you matched the transition from the faster paced section of the song into the slower, softer section seamlessly. The musicality of this entire piece is fantastic, you've crafted a superb LOTR vid...definately one that should be crowned.
Good work champ!
Thanx a lot for your generous review Mr A! I wasn't sure people would appreciate this vid with an overused song like this but I chose it because I thought it would fit a traditional, straightforward (almost naive) approach of the heroic theme. Glad you enjoyed the musicality and storytelling because these were my main focus.
Thanx again man ;)
PS: Nice to see you don't think I'm an asshole after the double post a few days ago!

Don't sweat it, champ - never thought that for a second. Its an easy mistake to make, Ive seen quite a few do it. :)
I have to admit that this is one of those overplayed songs that I actually *like*...and here you've worked really well with its overall structure and a variety of musical accents, so that makes it even better. The editing is solid throughout and there's plenty of great action, but also an emotional core.
(as a side note, man, I forgot how many baddies Aragorn decapitated!)
Don't worry there's no shame in liking a mainstream song every once in a while *is also guilty*. I tried to use the different instruments and compliment the vocals so I appreciate your comment about my use of music. The emotional core is the toughest part for me and I'm always trying to improve in this department.
(No kidding I was looking for violent scenes and then I realised these movies were a decapitating fest!)
I loved this! The build up in the 2:20s gave me the chills. I really like how you incorporated both the love story and the action sequences so seamlessly.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the part at 2:20. I tried to put more emphasis on the emotional part than I usually do so I'm happy you think it worked.

I like the back and forth at :16 with the necklace and her to just the necklace on him.
Very cool editing of the action and the music is really well used.
You created a very epic feeling with the pacing.
Despite the song, I really enjoyed it.

Thanx I intercut between these two scenes to create a flashback using the necklace as a visual connection. Creating an epic feel is exactly what I tried to do so I appreciate your comment. I'm glad you managed to enjoy the vid despite the music.

Very cool visual device.
I'm a bad geek. I think I'm the only person who didn't enjoy The Lord of the Rings. I did enjoy your vid, so I get back a little of my street cred.

I love this trilogy. I thought it was gonna be another commercial blockbuster with no substance but these movies were surprisingly well made. What didn't you like about them? Good to know my vids can help your street cred ;)

I got a bit bored with it. It seemed like too long to get rid of a ring... That's just me though. There's so many people that love it, so there must be something to it that I just don't see.
Yay, my street cred is still intact. :)
That was cool ! Like lots, I'm not a fan of this song and it's been overused, but somehow I kept watching and I enjoyed it throughout. there's a great balance between storytelling and action shiny sequences in there. and the action sequences are really great !
Thank you! I was concerned that the vid wouldn't work well with an overplayed song like that so I worked on the beat editing to maintain the viewer's interest. Luckily you didn't turn it off after 20 seconds. Storytelling is one of my flaws so I'm glad you think it worked well in this case with the action sequences.

Hey first video I watch from you and I have to tell you I honestly like the editing I use here! I was very dubious about the song, because I don't like it so much, but I was marvelling all through the video at how much it fits Aragorn! You made me just realise again how much I loved LOTR and that I need to make a video out of it, because they are such beautiful crafted movies! So, I'm going to download this one right now to watch it in better quality, but I can already tell you that I loved how you edit to the song, and the clips you chose were very good, i mean the parallels you make during the video especially with Arwen. I liked a lot the bit where Aragorn falls down the cliff, how it was good with that part of the song just to say one thing I remember. Overall a VERY good video! I loved it. So, what's the video of yours you are most proud of (apart from the last one obviously :)), so I can go and dl it?
Thanx Thandie! I'm happy if I made you wanna make a LOTR vid. I used the part where Aragorn falls from that cliff to match the pause in the music and also the lyrics "watch as we all fly away". Hmmm...good question. Maybe "Awakening" or my AfroSamurai AMV.

It was a good character video for sure, and I usually don't care a lot for those. Oh ack, I don't know AfroSamurai...well, I'm trying it out anyway, tomorrow :) *hugs*
I enjoyed this so much! :D Great blend of action and emotion, and gorgeous to look at. The build and pacing completely swept me away. :}
Thank you very much! I'm happy you enjoyed it. Glad to know you thought the pacing worked :D
*blink blink* OMG, you vidded romance stuff. Heh. Things what I liked best: Love the intro - that fast, flashy bit to the drumroll and again at around 1:50! That really works well imo (and looks pretty). And all those bits, where you cut complementing the beat, not 'just' on it? At 0:34 for example? I simply love those! Though that bit at 1:57, where you quite suddenly are strongly on the beat shows how well 'just on the beat' can work too.
The build up around 2:20 is genius! Love that to bits. Goosebumps. That feel of inevitability? And courage in the face of that. Dude, you captured that real well. At least that's what I'm taking from that. Also hehe at 0:56. You used that clip really well to the music. I can't see that scene without groaning again, going 'but that never happened!' while waving my arms around - I did that a lot when I first watched the movies. Now I'm all confused about what's the movie version and what 'really' happened :p Yes. Anyhow. Cool vid. Thanks :)
Thank YOU for this great comment. Yeah I know romance is not what I usually do but what can I say I got feelings too you know ;) I really appreciate your comment on my musicality and you got everything I wanted to express. Nice to hear you even had goosebumps :D
Hmmm Aragorn did fall from that cliff but he survived.
Hey, I'm all for trying out new things! And the romancey stuff here actually worked too, which I somehow neglected to mention up there. But it really does! And I'm just always very nitpicky with movie versions of books that I loved. As a whole, I really loved the movies too, so I'm just being stupid ;)
I'm looking forward to what you come up with next *settles in* :)
ooh, that was awesome!
i don't really like that song, but it still fits very well & since everything else (your editing!!) is fantastic, i don't even mind, *g*
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it despite the song :D |
