04:08 am - VID : "CHAOS THEORY"

Title : Chaos Theory Soundtrack : Lupe Fiasco - Streets On Fire Movies : 28 Weeks Later Cloverfield I Am Legend The Signal War Of The Worlds Description : Compilation of "end of the world" movies (warning : some violent/disturbing images).
When we hear "end of the world" we think natural disasters, wars, epidemics or any type of cataclysmic event. This video is about the people and what they go through when everything around them falls apart.
I started this vid a year ago did the first 40 seconds then stopped because I thought this was too early for me to make something like that. I picked it back up a few weeks ago and it was the hardest vid for me to complete because it's different from my usual straight up action vids (at least to me). I couldn't describe in details what I tried to express I just know it comes from my heart more than from my brain.

That was an all-around great (and haunting) piece of work. Your song choice, beat syncing and lyric matching are perfect. Thanx a lot AJ I appreciate that man. Hot damn, man!
Well it looks like I can scratch off my "end of the world" vid, because you pretty much nailed it! And with three of the movies I had also planned to use. XD
No, seriously Bill. This vid is epic stuff. It's above and beyond anything else I've seen from you. Awesome work man!! d('.'d) Took a long time to get it done, but it was well worth the wait. Oh I didn't know you planned on making an end of the world vid well you can still make it if your approach is different. I fixed your dvd drive so from now on I decide which vids you make :p
I also think it's miles above anything I've made so I really appreciate your feedback thanx a lot Chuck.

I've watched all these movies and you have amazing clip choice. You pick out the epic moments and the ones that are shared amoung the movies. Very, very cool. I'm all for disaster-y end of the world movies. The vid has tension and emotion running through it with the violence and pain. Excellent editing too. ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/80234867/13886337) | | From: | balistik94 |

Wow B. this was amazing! Very unpredictable editing, fast but not confusing, just perfect for the song you chose. I understand when you say you were more anxious about this one! I also missed two of these movies, I'll need to catch up.
Any chance you have the song to upload for me? After seeing your vid I'm quite fond of it. ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/115980352/3653606) | | From: | kuwdora |

holy crap - this vid is so overwhelming, so utterly consuming. wowwwwww...
amazing. Thank you very much for your great comment. That was fantastic. (Here via kuwdora.) Absolutely loved it, B.
Its such an un-usual track that accompanies the vision, one I hadn't heard but it just works & works. And then it works some more. It makes the vid somewhat melancholic which really got me into it.
I haven't had a chance to see The Signal, but the rest Ive seen & you've done a stellar job on shot choice and editing. The usual balistik standard ;)
Well done champ, a definate keeper and close to being my favourite from you! Thanx Rick. I'm glad you think the song choice worked and that melancholic feel is what I was going for so I really appreciate your feedback man. Wow, this is really cool -- I like how you keep it on a very human scale, even with all the apocalyptic clips. Plus your usual crisp editing, and an interesting song choice. It's a very fresh and evocative perspective on the material. Thanks a lot. Good to know the focus on people rather than disasters came across clearly. ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/79564158/11548489) | | From: | rae1013 |

I don't even have words. Wow! Thank you very much for your feedback. I've been following your progress with much interest lately and I think this is by far your best work yet! <3 The musicality is so incredibly dynamic and I'm just enthralled by the beautiful, intuitive editing throughout. I love the parallels and the creepy, dreamy feeling that arises from the juxtaposition of the music against the extremely violent visuals. Gorgeous work. Thank you I think so too. I'm glad you enjoyed the musicality and the editing it means a lot coming from you. Your comment about the creepy/dreamy feel is really appreciated. Thanks again. Wow, man. Just wow. This is so fucking awesome! And it's actually 4 and a half minutes long? It didn't feel like that at all, more like *maybe* 3 minutes. You rock, man!
Fav bits: The first 'death is at the tip of her toungue and danger ...'. That was when I knew and you had me. And then 1:06 - 11. The way you hold back a little there and then that back and forth at 'night'? Also the *timing* of your clips, man. That one at 1:11 just to name one example of *many*? It couldn't be more perfect! How you edit so closely to the lyrics instead of the beat most of the time, and then *pow* you break it up here and there and it just. Works so well.
Also those little wriggles (goodness, I seriously lack vocabulary here - the way you wrap the clips around the little wriggles in the music, you know?), like around 0:39 and 2:13. I love those. I also completely love 1:17. That 'her' sounds almost like a sudden indrawn breath, doesn't it, and you fit that so beautifully and intuitively with the clip. 2:16 - 2:27 is my favourite section of them all, I think. Or maybe 3:54 - about 4:13. Wow. And 2:59 makes me grin. Heh.
You seriously hit every single little thing in that song that could possibly be hit, didn't you? Except some very well chosen ones that you didn't :) I love that!
So this wasn't as coherent as I'd have liked my feedback to be >.< sry. But it's your own damn fault, leaving me all flaily handy and without said coherence :p Thank you very much for the detailed feedback don't worry it's coherent enough for me. It's nice to know you paid close attention to what I did with the beat I appreciate that. I'm glad the timing and the lyrics syncs worked for you. Your comment about the "her" sound is spot on and one of the main reasons why I chose this clip. Playing golf despite living in a post-apocalyptic world is definitely grin-worthy (by the way I tried to use continued motion between this clip and the next one where the baseball breaks the window). Thanx again for your great comment it feels good to know you really enjoyed it. This is one gorgeous video. The cuts between different sources seem natural when you pair it with that horrible fear that is emotionally running through this vid. Love it. here via obsessive24Thank you very much for your feedback. This is really good. Coming from the odd perspective of liking the genre but not having seen /any/ of these films the way you wove them together was seamless. I like how you introduced the different protagonists, (the line that stuck with me was the recharging halos). This song was really rather made for this, wasn't it? The "streets on fire" worked fantastically too as a way of pacing the vid: starting initially with the literal fire before developing the characters' emotional arcs. I love the idea that everyone has ideas and everyone's sure: you managed to convey the chaos and despair really cohesively. (here via a rec from obsessive24) Thank you I'm glad the transitions from movie to movie and the lyric/clip association worked for you. Your comment about the characters introductions and emotional arcs is spot on.
you managed to convey the chaos and despair really cohesively I really appreciate that. Oh man Bill, this is just gorgeous! Your editing is so smooth and wonderful and the overall style and approach to the subject matter is just...wow. I love it. Definitely your best video yet. Thanx a lot for your feedback Reese I'm glad you enjoyed it. wow, this is amazing!
i haven't seen one of these movies, but this was stunning nontheless. chilling & gritty. i always adore your fast & smooth editing, but i loved it even more in this vid - you hit the mood & changes in the song so perfectly... wow. SO GOOD! Thank you very much your comment about the chilling & gritty feel is really appreciated. This is just amazing. Wow. This is just tremendous! I haven't seen any of the films, but am just awed by your overall style and the incredible humanity of it all wound up in all the horror. Your editing is so superb,...really magnificent work! Thank you very much.
"and the incredible humanity of it all wound up in all the horror"
That's exactly what I was going for so I'm really glad this came across for you. Thanx again for your comment. This is an amazing vid and I am not sure how my feedback could do it justice. I've been meaning to catch up on your work after we friended each other and wow, this blew me away... it's very powerful and very dense. I'm impressed with the way you integrate the different movies into one central emotional journey. There were no jarring moments for me, which I can sometimes find in multisource vids (you know--where something throws you to into one source or another or where the sources used aren't actually equatable). Instead I felt you captured the chaos and horror and the human fragility really well. Focusing on individuals against the epic backdrop of what is happening works so well and you drew out such touching, terrifying, chilling and moving moments of that.
I couldn't describe in details what I tried to express I just know it comes from my heart more than from my brain. I honestly think those are the vids I respond to the strongest, and which I love the best. It can be damn hard to do though--takes courage because it's sort of the non-obvious path. So thank you for treading it and making this amazing vid.
I want to watch more of your vids but that one's kind of blown me away for a little bit. I need to digest it for a while first. ;) (And also, you know, try not to get too intimidated by your vidding! :)) Thank you so much for your feedback I really appreciate that. You saying there were no jarring moments is both surprising and flattering.
"you captured the chaos and horror and the human fragility really well. Focusing on individuals against the epic backdrop of what is happening works so well " I'm so glad that came across in this vid because yeah there are explosions and zombies and people getting killed but human drama is what's at the core of this video.
Those are also the vids I love the best because to me they have high rewatchability value and knowing that the creator poured his heart into them makes them even more enjoyable. It is a difficult path to tread but that's the one I wanna follow from now on.
I need to watch more of your vids as well. Thanks again for your great comment. |
